Elwood Press Release - Elwood Police detectives recently completed the investigation into the December 4, 2008 burglary of the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars lodge at 317 South 18th Street in Elwood. The case was turned over to the Madison County Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office and formal charges of Burglary a class C felony and Theft a class D felony were filed on two Elwood juveniles. Madison County Superior Court II Judge George Pancol issued warrants for the two males ages 15 and 16 on June 10th.
Uniformed officers of the Elwood Police took the two juveniles into custody early this morning at their homes. The 16 year-old was additionally charged with three counts of Contempt of Court on three other warrants issued out of Superior Court II. The two were transported to the Madison County Juvenile Detention Center where they will be held pending an initial hearing.
The two are accused of forcibly entering the VFW lodge and stealing a large amount of money, alcohol gift sets and several cartons of cigarettes. During the course of the investigation Elwood officers interviewed twelve witnesses and conducted two searches, one of which resulted in the recovery of one of the stolen alcohol gift sets.
