The Eagles Halloween Disappointment!

I took my 5 & 2 year old and my 5 y/o nephew to the Eagles Halloween Party on Sat. The kids were very excited with their little costumes on Smile! When we all walked in I was shocked! The cloud of smoke was unbelieveable and the smell was disgusting. There were people smoking everywhere. I wanted to turn around and leave, but thought the kids should get their treat bags first. While I was waiting in line for the kids to get a cookie at the refreshment stand, a lady lit a cigarette in line right in front of us. All of the smoke from her cigarette went directly behind her in my face and my 2 year olds face whom I was holding. I quickly turned around and it was everything I had to not say something to her. I think there is a time and place to have a cigarette and a drink, but a HALLOWEEN PARTY FOR THE KIDS IS NOT!!!

After they got their treat bags and ate their cookies, (about 10 mins later) my son started coughing really bad and his face was turning red. I knew it was time to leave!!! The kids were not the least bit disappointed to go as they thought the party was "yucky" anyway! When we left, we all stunk like a big fat cigarette!!!

I was VERY DISAPPOINTED and will NEVER go to the HALLOWEEN PARTY AT THE EAGLES EVER AGAIN!!! I feel like someone should have banned smoking at least until the party was OVER for the KIDS!! It was about the KIDS wasn't it???

Unfortunately the Eagles

Unfortunately the Eagles does not close to their members while there are activities being held for the children. You should go to a Christmas Party....You think that was bad! I understand what you are saying, I am a smoker, but the one thing I do not do is smoke while in the presence of children or especially in a building such as the Eagles that is so poorly ventilated. I have been in that building when there was not a sole in there smoking and when I left I smelt like a huge filter. Maybe by you voicing some concerns something will change, but I would not hold my breath. No punn intended!

Sometimes people need to stop thinking of only themselves and consider others. There is nothing worse than someone who is smoking blowing it on someone who does not.

To the Point - Organizations, Children & Smoking

Eagles Members are always welcome at the Eagles regardless of activities for children; but, during child activities the bar should either be closed or an artificial wall / divider should be erected dividing activities.
Great organizations focus on youth, community and disadvataged/disabled.
Smoking is an adult choice; we should never place children in a toxic enviornment.

I recommend:
1.) Removable Partitioning Material/Dividers for separate activities.
2.) Preventative Maintenance Program or PM; ensuring proper ventilation changing of HVAC Filters and proper facility upkeep.
3.) Get the sign out front lit back up.

Materials and Labor can be donated.

It's pretty nasty in there

It's pretty nasty in there even without the smoke. I think the whole place needs a good scrubbing. I had my kids there many years ago for some kind of party, it really was bad!!

Eagles Halloween Party

In response to the comments about the Eagles Halloween Party. The fact that smoking should not be going on during the childrens event is true. Most of us are respectful of the children being in the building. And due to the comment you have made, we will limit smoking to the bar area if we have any other community kids parties. However, I must point out, we have only a few members who will volunteer to come in and help with these parties. Out of the about seven volunteers that day, all were smokers but one, and we were not smoking during the event. We get very busy when we have a lot of kids, and we cannot remember everything. Had it been pointed out to us when you came in, we would have turned the exhaust system on. (Yes, we do have one, but it was not on at the time.) I have been doing parties there for several years with kids and this is the first complaint I have heard. If you speak up at the time, it would be a help to us for the future.
Second, to the person who hasn't been in for years. We have been working on the building painting and such over the last few years. Again, getting volunteers to help with any project is like pulling teeth. The Eagles has been in the building for 105 years, so there may not be a way to completely eliminate the smell entirely.
And to spearman8330, we do have a working ventilation system, however, it does not run continually. It is only run as needed. As far as getting the sign out front working, we paid someone to fix it. He took all the parts and never returned. To replace the sign would cost us quite a bit, and like many businesses in this town, we are lucky to still be surviving. As far as materials and labor, are you making the donation? We appreciate it very much and look forward to meeting with you. We have lots of people say they will volunteer their time, money and materials, and guess what. When it comes time, good luck with that. We have about 10 people who will actually step up to do anything. So we would gladly accept your donation. Just stop by and see us. And please, to anyone else, member or non-member, we are always glad to hear your comments and suggestions. And we always need people to come out and help with events. You do not hesitate to come to this website and state your feelings, but I don't believe we have had anyone call or come in to tell us in person. We could have easily corrected a problem (as simple as turning on the exhaust) if someone had just spoken up in the beginning.

It is better for people to

It is better for people to speak up about the problems. Having this website is a great communication tool for the city. I think more people should take advantage of it.
That's too bad about the jerk who took the sign equipment, sorry to hear about that.
