Elwood 2008 Sr. Citizens Prom
05/24/2008 - 6:00pm
05/24/2008 - 10:00pm
The first Senior Citizens Prom took place May 3, 2006, at the Parkview Progressive Care Facility donated by Bart and Cathy Bingham. Grace and Jerry Werline wanted to host a Community service project for seniors 55 and over that could have an evening out to socialize and have fun for all at no charge.
The Werline’s are members of the local Kiwanis Club and presented their ideas to the members. A Senior Prom committee was organized and several volunteers and members of other organizations came forward to make the Senior Prom an annual event. The first Prom was such a success with approximately 300 attending that it was moved to the Elwood Elks Lodge, which is a larger facility.
This year the Elwood Kiwanis Club contacted the Beta Sigma Phi Chapters in Elwood to co-host the prom. The chapters will help with the planning, food and decorations. The theme for the 2008 Prom will be “OVER THE HILL”. It will be May 24 at the Elks Lodge from 6:00 p.m. to10:00 p.m. for seniors 55 and over. There is no set dress code, just wear what’s comfortable anything from slacks to suits to Sunday dress will be fine.
Again, through community support, and many volunteers the prom will continue with Entertainment by the ETC Band and will offer a variety of music. Corsages to each lady, and a boutonniere to each man. There will be punch and a selection of food available. Donations have been provided by many community businesses and organizations. The Vintage Rollers Antique Car Club would enjoy transporting people to and from the prom in one of their antique cars. Anyone wanting a ride is asked to call the Werlines, 552-9349 and leave a message.
A King and Queen is selected each year, and given gifts. A new theme is picked each year, and the facility is decorated to match the theme.
The Senior Citizens Prom could not be held each year without the help of volunteers, and donations. A big Thank You goes out to all who have helped in the past, and made it possible for another successful year.
Be sure and watch for more information and pictures in the paper. We hope to see all the Senior citizens 55 and over at the prom.
