The Elwood Girls Softball 8U All Stars were undefeated this weekend at the Elwood Explosion Tournament! These girls are awesome to watch! Great job girls, as always, we are very proud of you!

Great Job
Good job girls. Its ashame your coach loves to yell. I hope its been a lot of fun for you.
Hmmm
Maybe that yelling is what keeps them motivated :) I had a coach like that once. He liked to yell a lot too but was one of the best coaches our school ever had. Great Job Girls. Keep up the good work :)
Al Jordan
Yeah
Come on there is yelling to get them to hear you and there is yelling cause you are mean. These are 8 year old little girls. I have witnessed his behavior and its appauling.
None of the girls seem to
None of the girls seem to have any problems with him. Maybe you have him confused with the other coaches. He is one of the best coaches my daughter has had. Way to be a great coach.
Hello!
You must be blind, he had his team in tears almost every game last season! You want to see good coaching you should have watched that Pink team, those girls had a blast, never got down & won the league for the 2nd year straight!
Hello
And let me guess, you were the coach.........
Re: Hello
doesn't matter which thread I click on to read peoples different views , there you are. Chastising everyone else for their views if different than yours, or telling them about there negative posts. Cutting anyone down one day one side one day another side. No matter what the subject you are an expert. How is that? Also do you ever try to digest other points of view to form an opinion ? Just my opinion, now start in and tell me all about it.
The post is about girls winning
How did it go from the girls winning to bashing the coach. I've seen jasmpf in the past on here and he or she does agree with other people. Maybe you're just another one they disagree with. They're entitled to their opinion just as you are. Feel free to join in.
I think most of their points are simply have the facts or don't post it. The others I've read are more positive than other people on here. Do you know what debate is, guest? Your move......
No expert
I'm no expert of anything. The coach must have did something right. IMO I didn't think it was fair to bash the coach for their accomplishments. I don't know anything about this team or their coaching. I had an opinion on the person who posted the bashing of the coach. Sorry I must not agree with you. The post went from congratulations to 8 year olds to bashing the coach. I agree with a lot of people on here, mostly the optimistic ones.
Passion for what you believe
There allot of people that post here, as do I, that jump from one topic to another and sometimes they are stern about the comments of others. It's called passion and from what I see it's a true passion for what they love and in most cases the love of their hometown.
I have seen a heck of allot more positive posts from jasmpf than from most and what you call "negative" posts are only comments that disagree with yours. By the way, why don't you register a user name guest?
No way jasmpf
its not that the coach did anything right. He was given a team with a lot of talent. Hence the name ALL STARS!
Great job girls........
Gotcha, I read your first post. You're not happy with the coach.
From what I have read of
From what I have read of this guy all he does is critisise and has made himself the negative post police, when in fact his posts are mostly negative towards other point of view. He is totally one sided unless Pops post, then for whatever reason his negativity is OK. Otherwise it is his way only or he tells all to move away. oh yeah he is in business? you talk of facts and debate? how is this posible when you try and stifle others. He states he knows nothing about the team or coaching but he sure is ready to jump on and police the comments.
jasmpf
just like you I think you were the head coach of a very winning babe ruth team one year. Not bc of anything you had taught those boys, but bc you had boys on the team with a ton of talent. Right?
I agree
that person may be one of the biggest critics. I thought Betty was bad, but you notice jasmpf has been there and done that?
Guest
Yep you're right again. Your forum go for it. GC Same person posting hiding behind the guest. My posts haven't been negative. I have an opinion that differs from others at times. Even Pops. I just ask for facts. I'm not jumping on some band wagon.
Coach of the pink team
yea that coach sets a good example. she argues with the umpire. its obvious what's going on here. she apparently is the only one on here the deserves and knows how to coach. anyone else with success just inherited a good team. get over yourself. she needs to go back and read her posts.
Guest
Sounds to me like you're the coach of a losing team. Sour grapes much?
coach of the pink team
I am the head coach of CTS, otherwise referred to as, "the pink team." I have never posted anything on this site, and only found out that I am now being bashed because I received a couple of phone calls informing me. I honestly don't care what the guest who wrote that I set a bad example by arguing with the umpire thinks about me. You can ask any of my players, their parents and families and you will hear that ALL the coaches of CTS are out there to teach our players good character, sportsmanship and the game of softball. I will defend myself and my eleven 6-8 year olds when necessary; however, anyone who knows me knows that I am not one who is out there arguing with the officials.
One other point that I would like to make, all coaches affiliated with the Elwood Girls Softball League, as well as those involved in coaching any other youth leagues are out there volunteering a great deal of time. I don't expect a pat on the back for coaching; however, I do feel that we all deserve enough respect not have to worry about people bad mouthing us on this site. I can guarantee that I was not the one who started or contributed to the discussions regarding the 8U All-Star coach, he and I may not have the same coaching styles all the time; however, I don't hold and hard feeling towards him. I have two daughters who played on the 8U All-Star team and I respect and appreciate all the time and effort that the coaches put into the team.
You need to get a clue.
You need to get a clue. That pink team lost to us. Therefore, their coaching staff wasn't that great. As well as that goes this years all star team had a much better record with him coaching than the all star team had last year with the pink teams coaches. Want to talk about screaming and yelling. That pink team's coaches are just as bad. My daughter played for them as well. The arguing was unbelievable. It is a shame when you have girls that didn't play all star's this year because they thought the pink team's coaches were going to be the all star coaches. Thank GOD that they were not.
Not at all. Just had my
Not at all. Just had my daughter on his team. And not one time did I see our girls in tears. Unless it was their own parents yelling at them. Maybe you shouldn't comment unless you know the whole stories. You should not be jude mental because it will come back and bite you in the butt.
Guess you were not at the
Guess you were not at the first few practices. Maybe you should not be so judgemental.
I am one of the all star
I am one of the all star asst coaches and agree that all the softball girl coaches put alot of time and effort in the league. Especially Joe. He, Chad and a few others were at the field all the time. I can say from working with Joe he is out their for those girls. Say your congratulations to the girls and move on. Not everyone has to like the style of all the coaches. If the girls have no problems than that is what counts. It is supposed to be about the girls. Joe must be a good coach seems how he didn't have a great deal of talent on his regular season team and he taught them and they came back and beat the 2 best teams during regular season. Michelle, I thank you for your post and hope that all these users can just let the girls be proud of how they did. It is ashame that their are post for the girls and because of all the negative I wouldn't let my daughter read the post.
Nope
no need to hide behind a guest. Have a log in.....
Pink Team
I am the assistant coach of "the pink team" and I started this thread as congratulations to the 8U All-Stars! My daughter played on this team, had a great time and was able to play positions she had never played during the regular season. All of the coaches are great in their own way, we all agree to disagree, and we respect each other. You as parents should do the same! All of the coaches volunteer quite a bit of their time teaching these young girls the fundamentals of softball. To those who don't like it, the league is always looking for more people to volunteer, don't come on here bashing the coaches, come out to the field and volunteer your time; we would love to have you. We all love what we do and are out there for the girls, or else we would not be devoting so much of our time to teach your children!
As far as the comments about the pink team, those are not necessary and have nothing to do with this thread. To the person that stated they had a problem with our coaching staff, we have always told the parents of our players to come to us if they had a problem with anything. We have always kept the parents very involved. You can register as a member and send me a private message if you would like to discuss this further. However based on your comment, it was pretty easy to figure out who you are, and we know it is not a parent of a CTS player. Please feel free to call either of us on our cell phones anytime to discuss the issue, you have our numbers and we don’t like to have things go unresolved. We would be happy to clear this up!
Once again, Congrats to the 8U All-Stars Team on a great season!
PINK TEAM
You are correct that I am not a parent of a child on the pinK team. I don't know who you think I am but, I assure you that I don't have your numbers or I would be happy to call. My oldest daughter never played for you but my youngest did. But both of my daughter's played for the other coach. Way to go 8U for a great season in your all stars. I appologize if I offened the pink team coaches. No one is perfect and I know that everyone makes mistakes. Maybe I could have been more open as a parent on the all star team that you coached in 2007.
sports coaching
ONLY BOYS SHOULD PLAY SPORTS!! Girls should be learning more home ec. classes Parenting classes, baking classes, they should be learning how to keep up the homes cleanliness. How to properly raise a child, not dump them off and go to town husband hunting. That's what's wrong with families today the girls have no idea what family even means
Holy Crap!
You sure are wanting to open a can of worms with that one. You must be very old school! Born in the 40's or so. Thats not the way it is anymore. You must have fell and hit your head.
Let me start off by saying this...
as a coach you do volunteer your time, being out there is not a paid position. It is suppose to be for the girls and over the past few years there are a few out there (whether anyone will admit it or not) that have lost site of that. I coached for several years until it was just more trouble than it was worth. Its a wonderful feeling to know that my daughter is the softball player that she is because of what I was able to teach her. We were out there for the championship game of the junior division and I must say I was appauled at the way things were ran. No one new the rules for a championship game. There were so many time outs so that one coach could review his rule book over and over again. Last time I checked it was against ASA to have a rule book in the dug out during a game. The 'bright yellow" team beat the blue team in extra innings. Later I heard the game was under protest, why? What is that teaching the girls? I vote we go back to the days when the league was ran by The Mort family and it was so much fun to play.
championship game
The championship game of the junior league was under protest because the rules were changed half way through the game. The entire issue was over whether or not there is a time limit during rec league championship game. I am not saying that either set of coaches handled the situation correctly; however, the officials should have known the rules and the president should have as well. If the game was going to be played without a time limit, both teams should have been told before the game started not an hour and ten minutes into it. That game lasted about three and a half hours and the league closed the concession stand after one hour and twenty minutes. Those girls played unitl 11:30 that night and couldn't buy something to drink...that was rediculous.
I agree, things like this wouldn't have happened when the Morts were in charge.
LOL!!!!!
..... and people wonder why so many parents are choosing the travel teams as opposed to staying in town to play.
Its funny
its funny that when not at the feild or during ball season someone has something to say but then when its time to play everybody stands back and those who take time out of there day to coach etc.... have to deal with everything What happened to being there for the girls, its also funny that when last years president was in charge everybody thought she needed to get out nobody liked her so on and so on dont know how many complaint i heard by the way most of them was about parents coaches and umps not about the girls, but how the league was being ran, so she didnt run and now look what the girls have, yes the feilds did look nice but thats not what it was all about it about the girls havin fun i dont know how many diff schedules that was made up nobody knew what was going on but oh they thought they could do so much better then her and the sad thing is that alot of the girls quit because her leaving so maybe wverybody needs to rethink the whole thing and start doing it for the girls there is only a few out there that still think like that
WOW! YOU PEOPLE REALLY NEED
WOW! YOU PEOPLE REALLY NEED TO GET A LIFE. ALSO, LEARNING TO SPELL MIGHT BE A GOOD IDEA!
So
who ended up winning the protest? Wonder what kind of participation award they will get this year? Another ink pen or key chain?
SO
1ST AND 2ND PLACE ARE GETTING NICE TROPHIES. ALL THE OTHER GIRLS ARE RECEIVING PARTICPATION MEDALS. AND THEY ARE ALOT NICER THAN THE DOG TAGS THE GIRLS GOT LAST YEAR. YOU CAN SAY WHAT YOU WANT ABOUT THIS YEARS PRESIDENT BUT FINANCIALLY THE GIRLS SOFTBALL FIELD CAME OUT AHEAD THIS YEAR.
I was
a player on that "bright yellow" team also known as Gregg Alignment. No it was not fair that we were out there until 11:30 playing a softball game. Especially if it was going to be a waste of our time. I had the time of my life that evening playing a very intense softball game. All but for it to be taken away and who decided that CTS should be the champions. I think it must have been the coaches of CTS, the entire game was a mess time out for this time out for that. If we were playing under a time limit then I think the coaches wasted an hour and twenty minute playing time to discuss calls. The rules should have been in place and everyone know of them prior to game time. Both of the teams played a wonderful game fought hard and we played our best. Our team had already beaten CTS twice in the regular season so therefore why should we have had a play-off game? Just goes to show that if you complain enough you will eventually get your way. Rules are Rules - since there was no rule stating that there was or was not to be a time limit then how was it decided that CTS was the junior league champions? Personally I think that both teams should be rewarded for playing 3 hours. There should be 2 league champions. Besides in my heart I know who the real winner was. GO GREGGS!!!!
WOW!
Wasn't this thread dedicated to compliment these young ladies' accomplishments? My granddaughter played ball over at Alex. The object was to learn to play, learn sportsmanship, teamwork and character, get some exercise and have something to do. She is only seven. She was proud to play and looked forward to the games. Win or lose, she had a great time. But when the game was over, it was over. She only wondered what we were doing or where we were going next. Not once did she complain or carry on, especially days or weeks after the game. She knew it was only a game. We try to teach them, but looks like we can all learn from them on this one. Also, GOOD JOB GIRLS!
You hit the nail right on
You hit the nail right on the head "Pops". It is only a game. It's meant to be a fun learning experence for the youth of our community. Only when whining parents get involved does it turn ugly. I wonder, how many of these parents with the problems donate any of their free time coaching, umping, or even working the concession stand when it's their teams turn. My guess would be very few. Most (not all) of the coaches are very fair and even tempered. My daughter enjoyed her experence. I will be the first to say that it wasn"t always the most organized league, but, you had an all new board. I for one was very happy knowing that if I had any issues, I could always aprouch the president and he was always willing to listen and be fair. Job well done EGSL!
EGSL
WAY to go "YELLOW TEAM," and yes we all need to take a look at the kids of Elwood and just realize every one needs to be a positive role model, every where you look the town is falling apert and going to be taken over by CRIME and DRUGS, My point is "There is alot more to fix in this town than a Softball League.
to 4:15pm guest
Are you sure you played on the "yellow team"? You write exceptionally well for a young girl of your age. Or is that just you upset Mommy?
Attitudes are rediculous!
My oldest daughter played softball this year and had a great time! The coaches were great and yes, some of us parents get on 'em a little more than we should, but that's because we want them to succeed. Next year both of my daughters will be playing and I hope they both have an awesome time learning the game of softball and crackin' that ball out there! I'm sure with my wife they'll probably be taught the finer art of playing first base too! lol Eveyrbody needs to lighten up...the game is for the kids, not the adults! Let 'em have some fun!
1:30 a.m. Guest
No that was not her upset Mommy. My daughter is a very well spoken young lady. The things that she put in her post were her opinion and thoughts came from her heart. So remember the league is for the girls not the parents or the coaches. I have coached at that ball field for many years and things have changed a lot. There are some things that could have been better out there this year, while there were still some positives. So if you would so kindly refrain from bashing my daughter on this web site I would appreciate it. She has every right to speak her peace.
8:18am guest
No one has bashed your daughter it's just I have never seen a 8 year old who writes and spells big words like a grown up adult or complain like a grown up adult. Looks suspicious to me.
11:41 Guest
First of all the league that was being spoken of is not the 8U league. It was the Junior League which is made up of 11-14 year olds. I don't really care if you think anything looks suspicious to you. This thread went from congratulating the 8U all star team to random topics of the EGSL in general. So she felt the need to speak her opinion about the way her game went. I think that you were making a poke at her when you asked if it was her Mommy. No she sat and wrote the letter a couple of times before she actually posted it. Don't worry about it.
Junior League
I was under the impression the young lady was on a Junior League team. If so, then she could very well be twelve years old and in middle school. I can also see where you could have assumed she was eight, since this thread began about eight year olds. It seems to have drifted to include posts concerning the older girls.
I was a coach
out there for a few years and have to say that I really enjoyed the Pixie(8U) league the best. Win or lose those little girls only cared about being out there. You didn't hear the little ones hating on each other all they ever asked was "are we almost done?" or "are we going for ice cream?" It was enjoyable!
I believe guest at 11:41 it was a Junior league division game she is talking about. Yes it was very well spoken but there were some girls out there that were getting ready to be freshmen in high school that played on that league.
It is her opinion and its ok to give it. The game lasted forever and both teams are champs! There was not one single girl that gave up during that game. It was probably one of the best games I have seen out there. Sure the coaches could of handled themselves a little different, but thats what happens when you have the 2 best teams in the division playing for a title.
Wow!
All that negativity for the girls winning! My daughter was on the 8U All-Stars...She loved her coach! He did more for those girls than I've seen in all the different sports my girl has played. GOOD JOB ALL STARS!!! HOPEFULLY MY GIRL CAN JOIN YOU GIRLS AGAIN NEXT YEAR! I HOPE SHE GETS THE SAME COACH! YOU'RE A GREAT COACH JOE!!
congratulations!
Yes congratulations are in order for the girls who won,and I do realize that all the coaches volunteer their time for no pay. The only thing that I thought was bad about the EGSL is that the rules seemed to be different every game we played. My husband was an assistant coach and we would be called out for something in one game and then in the next game another team would do the same thing and we would argue about it and the umpire would say we were wrong. I love to watch my daughter play and she loves playing, but I think that is alot of the problem with the parents being so upset. I think when people are chosen to coach the rules should be the first topic of the first coaches meeting so everyone is on the same page even before practices start.I admit I don't know much about the rules, but i think even the parents should get a copy and know all of them so they know what is going on before they speak, myself included.
The problem with the rules
The problem with the rules is that each place we went had their own set of rules. Hartford City can have different rules for the 8U than Westfield or Elwood. It depended on where we were playing...we had to abide by the home rules...
slemurray
Rules
They might be different in other places, but what i am saying is when we played here only with other Elwood teams the rules seemed to change with every game. The coaches argued with other coaches and even the umpires called the games differently. They need to get the rules straight, all of them together, coaches and umpires. Some of the games lasted longer than they should have because nobody could agree. One thing I remember was the sliding rule, it was told to us the very first game that you had to slide, so we made our girls slide, then in our next game the other team wasn't sliding and our coach went to talk to the umpire and he said they didn't have to. That's what I mean, it was hard to teach the girls the rules when they changed every game.
