Wow

I thought Quincy's Brass was playing. . . I guess not.

jtaylor227's picture

Um...B-rad

You're playing on Saturday! LOL

Why is the parade starting at South A St? Move it down to South J for a starting point and make it a longer parade! Come on folks! Show some community pride and make it a BIG parade!

WOW

Wow, Guess you better look again. Quincy's Brass is listed following South of Sunset.

Try being positive

B-rad did you call the Glass Festival before you started making negative comments. I personally looked and found Quincy Brass immediately. If that how you do business for your band I would hate to have to work with you. I would think that in your position with the YMCA you would know how to handle yourself.

jtaylor227 - Are you involved in the Glass Festival? Must not be. Instead of complaining get involved and that does not mean sitting in front of your computer and finding fault with those that try to do something positive for the community.

Positive

I too found Quincy's Brass immediately, and in two different posts. And you are right about getting involved. There are several organizations in Elwood who do things for and in and around the community. And all are looking for volunteers. Many of these organizations have members, but not many volunteer. I believe there is an information area at the Glass Festival and you could probably sign up there to volunteer.

b-rad

it's ok I had to look twice before I saw where your band was playing. I'll be there and it's ok to make a mistake. And as for the Y I think you do a great job. Have a nice day!

Involvement

TO the guest, No I'm not involved in the Glass Festival, other than the fact that I'm usually up there every day of it with my wife and kids and they enjoy it! I work 5 jobs in order to make a living, if I didn't have to work so much to support my family, then trust me, I would volunteer my time to assist, just like I've been volunteering with different organizations and agencies since I was 16 years old. Thank you for your concern though.
Jake

Featival

The Little town of Elwood is a dirty, nasty town. There is nothing there. Why a glass festival? All the glass in Elwoods past is gone.

You should have a clean up the town festival. And take a bath too!

Festival

The Glass Festival brings our community together. I look forward to it every year. Hey does anyone know which gal won Miss Elwood?? Thanks

jtaylor227's picture

Larry

The Glass Festival helps to bring this community together each year for at least one weekend of fun. Sure, Elwood has it's fair share of jerks, but every community does and that's not the element that we want at the Glass Festval. We want the family atmosphere and carnival type atmosphere that makes small town festivals so great! So Larry, if you feel that way about the Glass Festival and Elwood, then don't go and leave it to those of us that enjoy spending time with our familes and enjoying a nice greasy funnel cake once in a while!

My 2nd Glass Festival

I'm fairly new to Elwood. I moved here last July and I like this small town. I went to the glass festival last year and enjoyed it and so did my kids. We're going again this year and I know we will enjoy it just as much. I don't think this town is dirty or nasty. Just like any town there are good and bad people---we're lucky enough to live in a town where the good out weighs the bad. Thanks to everybody who has made me feel welcome here!

small.talk's picture

Thats terrible!

No town is perfect Larry..... Nope not even Elwood. The Glass Festival is a tradition for our town, if you think we are dirty and nasty then by all means be sure NOT TO COME! You won't be missed!!! So many people work hard to make it happen and many thanks need to go out to those invloved. Guest we are glad that you feel welcome in our humble town and you are very right the good for sure out weighs the bad. Thank you for clarifying that. With ya Jake I would like to as well see the parade get bigger and bigger. Who is that we need to contact about making that happen? How do you get people more involved in participating?

braclet day

how much does it cost to ride the rides all day?

Glass

What do you mean no glass? During the festival at the park, there are bus tours that leave at different times continuously so folks can go to the glass factories. The tour includes - The House of Glass, Prestige Crystal, Spencer Ladipary - who all deal in glass; and Venus Chocolate Shop (she makes her own chocolate candies right in the store); New Day Meadery (the mead is made right in the shop); and the Historic Opera House (lots of history there). You may stay at any stop for as long as you like during the tour hours, and catch a bus at any time to move on to the next stop. One of Elwood's sororities puts together the tours and they are so much fun. Did it last year. There is no charge for the tour, so be sure to check it out this year. I'm sure it will be as nice as last year.

I'm a native and a stranger

Hello all! My family has been in Elwood for generations (Heaton,Leighton, etc). I was born there but never lived there for more than a few months at a time. I went to 6th grade in '85... remember me? I went to the festival last year for the first time.. finally! My family really enjoyed ourselves! We live in Indy, but I have always felt a connection and am really looking forward to this weekend.... so much so that I'm joining you all as a vendor (I'm a first timer). Come check out my crosses and handmade cards or just stop by to say hi.... especially if you remember me... I came in at the middle of the school year... everyone thought I was from Italy and then moved to California during the summer. Look forward to seeing everyone!

What has happened?

The Glass Festival used to be so much more than what it is now. Its not even worth my 10 minutes to walk thru it unless I want some fair food, and I always try to support the Optimist Club and get a shake up. But what has become of it? Is it because we lost Jason Hester? Boy was it a LOSS when he left!! I also dont understand that no one even knows when the parade is. My nephew is supposed to be in the parade and we havent even been told a time and everyone we ask just says well have to get back with you. Um OK! Yes, this includes the CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. Do the people in charge not even care? GOD what is in this town anymore but a bunch of run down homes and people in charge that dont even care anymore. I guess a bonus would be that the glass fest has FREE parking. I dont think people would even come if they had to pay! I hope it is better this year, really I do! For the town and for the people but I am not holding my breath. You can all say what you will and post comments, but face it people Elwood is going down the tubes FAST and the economy isnt helping. I am going to get my running shoes on and as soon as the housing market gets better Ill be running to get the H*LL outta here. Our children deserve better; mine & yours-this town has nothing to offer them. Maybe a swift kick up the mayors behind and the EDD would get the balls rolling. I think they had good intentions but they are just a little overwhelmed with their jobs and it is showing that they are giving up.

773H209's picture

Dead on

Beachbunny I hate to admit it , you are right when you say your kids deserve better. The folks will be mad at us but once you see what other communities have to offer especially kids it is night and day. There is no comparison. I love my memories growing up in Elwood, but it is not the same now. I raised my kids there and I'm glad they are not still there. Doesn't mean I don't wish the best and hope it changes back , Jason Hester huge loss and Jim Knoop I miss him, he was a good soul. It was so cool watching Mary Beth With Ned on TV, maybe it's a start ,Hope so. Elwood needs a break to go its way.

BeachBunny's picture

Just a little comparison.

I was in Noblesville the other day eating and when my guests and I left we were walking back to the parking lot which was a few blocks away. it was about 8pm and of course still light out. As we were walking down the street I noticed that all the park benches were being occupied by families eating ice cream. It dawned on me that the benches were being used for their intended purpose and not to be destroyed or used for disrespectful teens lining the streets making the town look ugly. It was such a nice sight-one I wish could be viewed in Elwood! But NO we had to get rid of our park benches because the group that was occupying them were making the town look bad. Not to mention they were being occupied by several young mothers who feel its necessary to have their babies out very late. This made me very sad, sad that I have children here who cant appreciate beauty in the town that I chose to raise them in. Elwood has every oppertunity to have what these other towns have but its the people that live here that ugly it up and that is sad. I know that there are good people here, but it seems to me that the good is out weighing the bad anymore. Just look around-open your eyes. I realize there is nothing to do here for the youth other than the YMCA and if I had the money I would fund something for them. But on the other hand, if I had the money, I would be living in Hmilton County. I hate this town, it isnt what I grew up in. I moved away for several years, and thought it would be a nice place to come back to but I was WRONG-now with the economy I feel stuck.

I am sorry if this seems like I am attacking Elwood, I am not trying to do that, I would love to see Elwood prosper, I just dont feel like it will ever get out of the hole it is stuck in. I want more for my children, and that is all that matters... I want more for all of the youth here.

Bus tour

Thanks much for commenting on the bus tour. Have been to the festival numerous times in the past and never heard about the tour.

How Sad
