Gas Prices in Elwood

Has anyone noticed the gas prices in Elwood vs. other cities? I drive to Carmel everyday, and there is usually a 4 cent difference in the price of gas, with ELWOODS prices being higher. Does anyone know why this is? The gas stations in Elwood are always PACKED so supply/demand doesn't sit well with me. There is a McClure station on 31, heading south near Westfield, that sits in the middle of nowhere, and their prices are always cheaper, usually cheaper than the Gas America that is just north of them!!!

I just don't get it~and would appreciate any input.

Thanks!

Often Wondered!

I have often wondered that myself, I have drove the same distance for 12 years and notice the exact same thing, I will try to get gas down there as often as possible. Sometimes it is more than 4 cents difference, I have seen several times where it is at least 10 cents difference! However, today gas in Carmel hit $3.95 around lunch hour! I was shocked! But what can you do, we have to have it! Luckily I have been able to carpool so that has helped out quite a bit.

Gas

The price of gas is controlled totally by the company itself. (I work for a gas station here in town) If you have a problem with it, contact them.

Gas Quality Issue

Why is Swifty Gas or any off brand supplier of gasoline the same price as Marathon Gas or any Major Supplier?

Fill a plastic gallon jug with gas from Swifty & Fill a plastic gallon jug with gas from Marathon and let it sit. After a couple of days you will see that the
Swifty Gas has a lot of sediment on the bottom. "Manipulated Product".

It's time we demand that off brands supply the same quality for the same price as major brands or we stop buying the off brand products. With gas prices the way they are today; we need to be more cautious where we purchase. A lot of people are getting rich manipulating there cheep product.

Off brand suppliers that manipulate its product should not be selling for a premium price as the major suppliers.

While all gas suppliers are charging the same price; I will be spending my money with a quality product because my wallet and my car deserve it.

How About You ?

Just an observation...

Every time I fill my gas tank, I reset the trip counter so I can keep track of how many miles I'm getting to a full tank of gas. Normally, I can get really close to 400 miles on a full tank. However, here lately that the gas prices have become outrageous, I'm not getting the same amount of miles. For example, I was just under 1/4 tank yesterday and filled up. My trip counter had just over 200 miles. So, are they now selling junk gas, are they "thinning" it out?? Half the gas for double the price????

Interesting~

That is something I didnt know~thanks for sharing. My car and wallet deserve it as well.....

gas

gas is higher in town because most of us are stuck here. not worth the drive just to get gas. sowe drive around here and watch the town die .State plating last week , Plastech this week what nextElsa anyone? they are part of the auto supplier not much lef is there?what about the poor local businessman who depends on local folk for thier lively hood.Getting any answers from those meetings mr. econmic developer theres a budget cut if you were to ask me, I would rather have my trash picked up thanpay for that office where nothing gets done.Just how many city cars and trucks are getting a free ride on us?

idea

I have a great idea dont like the economic developer or much about this town? Try moving and go give some other town a free ride on you. Their just sittin around waiting on you. See YA

make a move

nobody is (stuck) here its your choice to stay. before you go giving any one a free ride answer me this how is the gas paid for in the city utilitie trucks? Betcha cant answer that correctly can you?

A recent Bush quote on Gas!

"Wait a minute. What did you just say? You're predicting $4-a-gallon gas? ... That's interesting. I hadn't heard that." --George W. Bush, Washington, D.C., Feb. 28, 2008

200 ?

Dude dont think you have a 200 mile difference in your gas counter, try doing the math and see what you are getting on miles per gallon that would be a lot easier to believe. If they were thinning out the gas dont you think your car would run a lot worse?

city vehicles

How many are there now? How many are taken home by city officals for there own personal use? How many fire trucks do you need to dispatch when an old ladie falls and breaks her hip?

R u kidding me

Last time I checked, the only vehicle dispatched when "an old lady falls and breaks her hip" is the ambulance. The only time the fire truck is dispatched is when a person is not breathing per the 911 call, a fire call or a car accident. Get your facts straight before you spout off. And yes I have my facts straight.

Easy Now

Come on now your starting to go places you know nothing about. There are state laws and different protocol when it comes to some of those questions. Believe it or not some of those issues have been adressed and taken care of already.

Arent you glad?

Arent you glad the FD always HAS gas in their vehicles? What if you needed them, bet you would be thankful and happy then!!!!

People fail to realize that when your desperate and you dont know where to turn or what to do, you pick up a phone and dial 911 and the FD and/or the COPS are the ones that show up at your doorstep. In your desperate hour, not knowing where to turn or what to do and they solve your problem or help your loved one when you cant or you dont know how. But yet the FD and the COPS are the first ones picked on about the use of the vehicles the gas they use, and saying they make too much money! How dare you!

What would happen if you dialed 911 next time and no one showed up? Your child grandmother or parent is not breathing, hurt, bleeding profusely, and no one shows up? Maybe you should be happy that those vehicles have GAS, and maybe just maybe next time you see a firefighter or an officer of the law, you could say "THANK YOU"!!!

I'm glad!

I agree Trisha! Eveyrbody wants to gripe about how the police department is run, and then they start in about the fire department vehicles that are going on calls. If you all think you know so much about how a police or fire department SHOULD be run, then don't you think you should try to get get on the departments or get involved? I love how people in this town are always wanting to know this and that about details of police calls and are the first ones to throw a fit when something happens, but when they find out the truth, and the legal aspects of calls then they back down and shut up until something else happens that they can mouth off about and don't know anything about. Learn facts before running your mouths people! Not to be rude, but if you don't know anything about a subject, ask questions before jumping people and stirring the crap! AND SO YOU KNOW....I AM GLAD THAT THE FIRE AND POLICE DEPARTMENTS HAVE GAS AND DRIVE THEIR VEHICLES OR HAVE EXTRA PEOPLE RESPOND TO EMERGENCIES! IF IT'S MY LOVED ONE THAT'S HURT OR IN NEED, THEN I WANT EVERY AVAILABLE EMERGENCY VEHICLE TO RESPOND! THIS INCLUDES DEPARTMENTS WITH TAKE-HOME VEHICLES!!!

stargazer0128's picture

RIGHT ON!

That is the truth, I have said many times "all of you complaining about these two departments will be the first ones to call them when you need help" They are the last departments that should ever take any budget cuts and should be the most highly paid, well respected postions in our CITY! If they were not fueling up these vehicles and had to stop and get gas before they came to assist you, you would all complain about that to! Lay off them, show your respect to them and when you find yourself wanting to bash them, just remember, they are always there to help when you need them!

glad also

RIGHT ON RIGHT ON

IS IT POSSIBLE

IS IT POSSIBLE THAT ONE PAGE ON THESE FORUMS COULD BE POSITIVE WE NEED TO FIND SOMETHING WE ALL CAN AGREE ON SO THAT WE CAN BE AS ONE! WE ALL LIVE TOGETHER IN THIS CITY IF WE COULD TURN ALL THE NEGATIVE INTO POSITIVE WE WOULD BE BETTER OFF!

RE: trishasull & jtaylor...

You two have made a great point, the gas prices has nothing to do with the EPD or FD or anyone else in this town. The city vehicles need to be sure their tanks are full so they have enough for their runs and services they provide...Now on the other hand, there are a few city officials(not many) that I have seen personally, just cruising the so called "L" that young people use to or still cruise. My husband and I have 4 children and we will sometimes take a ride after dinner and I have witnessed this happening. And they are the same ones every time. Though they may just be doing their rounds, but it looks odd seeing an officer go around dairy queen and turn around @ rickers 2 or 3 times...This is a bit confusing but I am sure they have their reasons...I am not disagree with the 2 of you by no means, I also feel that the city vehicles should have full tanks of gas because of the services they are providing for us. And like the comment someone posted about "Gas" that the prices are controlled by the company itself, and if anyone has a problem to call them...Do any of you really think that the gas stations will listen to anyone and lower the prices? I am just courious because I do not think it will make a bit of difference...Not sure! Anyone have any input on this?

I have been trying to be positive with my post as I have lots of idea's but am not a very good typist and have a hard time explaining my thoughts in print, sorry I just think there are to many police cars for our size town to take care of budget wize also that beg ass truck the street dept. seems as though the chief drives around in it and they never use it for what it was made.Maybe a more economical truck to cruise in and use the monster truck only when the job calls for it. We need to use our resourses much more wisely. I se a lot of overkill, this town got more done with less... back in the day.We have a smaller population now than back in the 60s and 70s ,but we need a bigger police dept.? and more bigger equipment to do the same job? I am probably wrong so do not take offence just trying to understand. pleas don't come and arrest me PLEASE I got the point years ago..

Getting back on the Blog Track

Staying on topics means more educated and meaningful discussions.

City Vehicles need gas. How is the current budget affected with these prices and will it support $5.00 per gallon. If we have exceeded the estimates then what is the action plan? Is the future budget going to write-in inflated prices and what is the cap? If the cap is exceeded; what will be the effect on the city and do we have an action plan if or when this occurs and what grants are available? Grant amounts may be affected.

I am not able to attend city meetings. I work out of state Monday-Friday.

These are community questions; in support of our community. We must understand the bottom line; to get involved.

Ed Spearman

EPD

Daydreamer,

From working in the local hospital, I can tell you that there is a need for the number of police officers that we have on each shift. Actually there is probably a need for more. People do not behave like they did in the 60's and 70's. The town is innundated with drugs and there seems to be more crime as well. I am not saying that there isn't anything wrong with what's happened recently, but, credit needs to be given where is credit is due. There have been times if it wasn't for EPD graciously standing by, innocent people could have been injured. Kudos to the fire department as well. They do a terrific job and deserve to be recognized as well. I do think that the city officials have some answering to do but hopefully justice will prevail.
