Tip from local resident leads police to burglary in progress
By METINA MILLER
The Elwood Police Department’s Capt. Andy McGuire and officer Jason Leisure responded to a tip called in concerning a possible burglary in progress at 3:12 a.m. today.
Jason Dollar, 23, Elwood and Jeremy Reed, 29, 9529W 500N, were charged with burglary, a class B felony, residential entry, a class D felony and theft, a class D felony. Reed, in addition to the above charges was also charged with possession of marijuana, a class A misdemeanor.
The anonymous caller advised there were two male subjects who had forceably entered a residence in the area. The caller also advised EPD as to the direction the male suspects were fleeing in.
According to the EPD affidavit, McGuire observed a vehicle turning north off of South B Street and watched as the Saturn slammed on its brakes and stopped at the side of the roadway. McGuire caught up to the vehicle in the 2300 block of South A Street.
K-9 Sgt. Nick Oldham immediately located a clear, plastic baggie containing a leafy green substance, later field tested as marijuana, on the sidewalk next to where Reed had just exited the vehicle. The two suspects were placed under arrest and advised of their rights. Both denied being involved in an illegal residential entry. Jason Dollar EPD officers went and spoke to the witness who positively identified the two as the suspects. Officers checked the suspected residence to ensure no one was inside or injured. No one was located in the residence, however officers observed two television stands with loose cords around them.
Dollar later indicated that he and Reed had been inside the residence and two Direct TV boxes were taken and still inside his vehicle.
McGuire pointed out this arrest was a direct result of a tip called in from the public. “We also received an anonymous tip last week concerning
the suspects and believe that call prevented a burglary.” McGuire said.
EPD encourages the public to contact the department concerning suspicious activity at 552-3376.
Jeremy Reed
I am so glad that they got these 2 guys off the roads. The police had them just a few nights ago and then let them walk in front of their police car calling it the walk of shame. And then let them go. Our Police Dept and Mayor is no more than a friggin joke.
Hey Computer Dude. Hope you have a great 4th.
I am not sure what part you are disagreeing with. Your right people do deserve a second chance. We all make mistakes. My main gripe is that I had to go without my medications due to the EPD. It isn't just about me any more. I wanted everyone to know this information so that they would never have to be put in that spot. Some people would hva or could have died without their medication for that long.
Had Jason Dollar and Jeremy Reed been arrested aweek ago when they were seen by neighbors
at6:30am,Then someone's home wouln't have been broken into. (one of the guys told the police what they
were going to do). But all the police done to the guys was made them walk down our street, with the police
car behind them, The police called it" the walk of shame". I bet these guys got a big laugh at the police
as they drove away. I guess it was time for their shift change, and they didn't want to mess with the paper work.
I'm sorry for the people who's house they broke into this time, but it could have been prevented a week ago.
Now lets see how soon they are back on the streets again.
I disagree Robin2857. Some scare tactics work on some people and some they don't. Everyone deserves a second chance but like some people, they don't learn and get caught again. It all catches up with you eventually.
They had the 2 guys a few nights ago. They were trying to break in another house. The police maded them walk in front of the police car back to their car parked at the other end of the block and they called it the walk of shame. The 2 guys should have been booked at that time instead of being let go.
sound like the cops are doing their jobs, good work. Now about the last part are the guys in jail now or did they walk? do not understand the last part of the story.

Let's just be glad it wasn't my house they were breaking into, or they would have been shot.
A big thank you goes out to the EPD for getting these two scum bags off the streets!
WOOT!! WOOT!!
