SCHOOLS AND THEIR RULES

EVERYONE, I REALIZE HOW TO GET RID OF LICE, THE QUESTION I AM ASKING IN MY POST IS DOES ANYONE KNOW ABOUT THIS POLICY AND WHY IS IT CONSIDERED DISCRIMINATION??? I AM NOT SURE IF ANYONE ELSE HAS EXPERIENCED THEIR CHILD GETTING HEAD LICE AND NOT BEING NOTIFIED FROM THE SCHOOLS IN ELWOOD ABOUT IT! SO IF ANYONE HAS ANY ANSWERS TO THIS I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY FEEDBACK!

SOME MIGHT FIND THIS UNBELIEVABLE BUT DID YOU KNOW THAT IF A CHILD CATCHES HEAD LICE AT SCHOOL OR ANYWHERE FOR THAT MATTER THE SCHOOL WILL NOT NOTIFY THE PARENTS AND IF THEY FIND IT ON YOU'RE CHILD THREE TIMES THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO CONTACT C.P.S. THIS IS UNREAL WE TREAT OUR CHILDREN'S HAIR TWO TO THREE TIMES A MONTH DO TO THIS RULE OR WHATEVER IT IS???????????THEY CALL IT DISCRIMINATION! I CALL IT A NEVER ENDING BATTLE BECAUSE OF THE PARENTS WHO ARE NOT NOTIFIED AND WHO DON'T TREAT THEIR CHILDREN'S HAIR! HOW IS IT DISCRIMINATION IF IT WILL HELP RID THE SCHOOL OF A PROBLEM I FOR ONE ALONG WITH MY WIFE ARE VERY UPSET WITH THIS POLICY WE CANT BELIEVE THEY WOULD JUST LET THIS GO AND NOT NOTIFY THE PARENTS!I SAY NOTIFY THE PARENTS CAUSE I AM TIRED OF SPENDING MY MONEY ON THE TREATMENT'S AND OTHER PARENTS ARE NOT DOING ANYTHING TO HELP!(I DID NOT SAY ALL PARENTS ARE DOING NOTHING! JUST ENOUGH TO KEEP THE PROBLEM IN OUR SCHOOLS!)IS THERE A WAY AROUND THIS? FEEDBACK WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Schools

Well as the wife I wanted to add something...Between my husband and I we have 4 children, and we treat or check our children's hair at least once a week! This gets to be tiring! They have gotten it between 10-12 times since the middle of last school year! This consists of us having to wash EVERYTHING in our house to rid of it. It seems like they come home with it at least every other week! I recently heard that you can mix tea tree oil in with a bottle of shampoo and use it 2-3 times a week and it helps keeps them away! I have purchased it and will try it starting this week! Like my husband said, there is no possible way to get rid of it completely unless some of the other parents will rid of it also! We have also told the principle of the school that no matter what the policy is we would like to be notified that our children have it so we can get them out of school and treat it so no one else in the school will get it. This week one of our daughters came home with nits and she told us that the nurse checked their heads in class and said she had a few nits...Well we were not notified by the school...The crazy thing is our 2 oldest daughters are both in 1st grade with different teachers and they also sleep in the same room at home. Our other 3 daughters did not have them this week, although we treated them anyway to be sure! Anyone that has any advice of what we could do it would be greatly appreciated! And also like my husband said, the school did say if they find it on them 3 times they will contact CPS! It is a big issue with us! Advice please!?!?

FYI, a few tips: Be sure to spray your childrens hair with hairspray every morning, lice do not like dirty, product ridden hair, what they do love is the clean smooth hair. Also, next time they get it, lather their dry hair up with mayonase, put a clear plastic shower cap on them, leave them sit in it for 25 mins, then take the cap off, rinse their hair out, wash it with Dawn dishsoap (cuts the grease), then wash it with their shampoo and conditioner, not only does it kill the lice and the destroy the nits, it is also and excellent treatment for your hair anyway. People pay good money for hair treatments like that. Just get the cheap dollar store mayo, works really good. As far as why the school does not notify you, I have no clue on that subject!

HEAD LICE IN SCHOOL

I DON'T UNDERSTAND THIS SCHOOL POLICY. YOU MEAN IF A CHILD IS FOUND TO HAVE HEAD LICE THEY JUST SEND HIM/HER BACK TO THEIR CLASS SO THAT OTHER CHILDREN ARE EXPOSED TO IT? THIS MAKES NO SENSE TO ME AT ALL! IF THAT CHILD DOES NOT COME HOME AND TELL THEIR PARENTS NOTHING IS DONE ABOUT IT. MY CHILDREN WENT TO SCHOOL IN THE SOUTH, AND WE HAD SOME MAJOR OUTBREAKS OF HEAD LICE, BUT THE SCHOOLS POLICY WAS TO CONTACT THE PARENTS AND SEND THE CHILD HOME, RIGHT THEN. ONCE THE CHILD WAS TREATED AND THE NITS WERE REMOVED, THEN YOU HAD TO HAVE EITHER THE SCHOOL NURSE OR A NURSE FROM THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT, ( WHICH WAS FREE ) CHECK THE CHILD'S HEAD FOR NITS, THEY HAD TO SIGN A SLIP SAYING THE CHILD'S HEAD WAS CLEAN OF NITS BEFORE THEY COULD GO BACK TO SCHOOL, THIS WAS NOT DISCRIMINATION, NO ONE BESIDES THE SCHOOL OFFICIALS & THE PARENTS KNEW WHY THEY WERE OUT. IT WAS NOT A PERFECT SOLUTION, BUT IT SURE HELPED SLOW DOWN ( NOTHING WILL STOP HEAD LICE COMPLETELY) THE SPREAD OF THE LICE THROUGH THE CLASS ROOMS. HEAD LICE IS A NEVER ENDING PROBLEM BUT IT CAN BE CONTROLLED.

what i do

you know i never even seen head lice till i got married and we moved to elwood with our kids.... now it seems the first week of school every year our daughter gets it... plus the fact lice is so prevelent in Elwood that they are becoming resistant to the lice shampoos..... so here is what i found online and it worked wonderfully.... first take a hair straightener to their hair, then you get a thick conditioner and shower cap. coat dry hair with conditioner thickly and put on the shower cap... (that way you dont have to deal with the oils and such that mayo and olive oil leave) after 2 hours you wash and then use a metal lice comb and that should be it... also use hair spray i have heard to keep them out works...

RE:HEAD LICE IN SCHOOLS

Yes that is exactly what happens, accually the nurse comes to the children's classroom and check their heads and tells the children if they have it or not!! I do not understand it at all...Before I got with my husband, I lived in Alexandria for a while and my daughter went to Alex schools and if the children contacted it, they called the parents and had them pick them up to treat it, then when you brought the child back you had to take them straight to the nurse for them to check their heads under a black light and if there were more than 5 nits, you had to take the child home and remove them and go back through the same process when taking the child back to school again! This is how it should be everywhere! I don't understand Elwood school's, I guess there are just so many parents that don't want to be embarrassed that their children have head lice, but they shouldn't be because I beleive it is true that they like clean hair, so why be embarrassed that your child's hair is clean, just take care of the problem!! I don't know, I have been thinking about contacting the school board about this issue because I am a 25 year old married woman, with 4 girls, and I am one of the few younger parents that take care of my children in the town of Elwood at such a young age...I am not saying I am the only one...but there are many younger people that do not care for their children at all(MOSTLY IN ELWOOD) I refuse to lose my children because of the untreated head lice in the school's, it is not right!

WHAT TO DO?

WHAT MOST PEOPLE DON'T UNDERSTAND IS AFTER YOU GET THEM OUT OF YOUR CHILD'S HAIR, THEN YOU HAVE TO GET THEM OUT OF YOUR HOUSE. LICE WILL JUMP FROM THE HEAD TO ANYTHING THE CHILD SITS ON, LAYS ON, OR SNUGGLES TO. OUR SCHOOLS USE TO SEND HOME A PAPER AT THE BEING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR TELLING PARENTS HOW TO GET RID OF THEM COMPLETELY. YOU HAVE TO STRIP THEIR BEDS AND WASH EVERYTHING IN HOT WATER, SPRAY DOWN THEIR BEDS AND PILLOWS WITH SPRAY, AND PUT ALL STUFFED ANIMAL IN A PLASTIC BAG AND TIE IT UP FOR 2 WEEKS. YOU ALSO HAVE TO SPRAY YOUR COUCHES & CHAIRS AND VACUUM THE CARPET & FURNITURE. ITS A LONG & EXPENSIVE PROCESS, BUT IF YOU WANT TO GET RID OF THEM YOU HAVE TO DO IT ALL.

RE:April, WHAT TO DO?

Yes, I do this at least once a week, My house is probably the cleanest house on my block and my water bill runs sky high because I am constantly washing everything, from the cases around the cushions on the couches to washing the seats in our car with hot soapy water. It just seems like a never ending process because of other children having it and their parents not taking care of it. I get so tired of having to clean everything in my house week by week, it is just double work for me, my husband helps but he is also tired of it also. I appreciate your advice, I was just curious if any other parents are having the same problems with this and may possibly have any thoughts on the matter. This is just getting out of control, I think! Thanks again

head lice

My children never once got lice until we moved to Elwood. I don't blame Elwood, I blame the parents that know there children have lice and are to lazy to do any thing about it. I have a "neighbor" that has small children, they always have lice. We have treated there heads for them to help out, and to keep it out of our home, but it's pointless when the kids go home to lay on lice filled beds, and play with stuffed animals infested with lice, and the parents have lice too. I don't agree with the schools calling CPS when you children get lice, because if little Sally has lice and is playing at reces with Jane, they are both goign to get it. One little bugger can lay what 1,000 eggs? And they jump. You could be at Marsh and catch it from the guy in line. Or maybe shopping for cloths, who tried that on before you... ewwww. my skin is crawling. And the school calls CPS for every thing my favorite was one of the kids in the class told the teacher that her dad was punching her... she ment to sayt punnishing, not one bruise; but the father now has home visits and has to deal with all the drama.

When my kids were going to

When my kids were going to Edgewood they had lice all the time. If the school is not notifying the parents, they are the guilty party in this! That is the reason why it's being spread around by all the other children, and probably the adults too!

When you clean your house with lice killing sprays, make sure you spray the seats in your car too.

Well from all the experience...

FYI, not to sound like a head lice "EXPERT" or anything LOL, but I have used the sprays of all kinds and they do not work! I have to use HOT HOT soapy water w/ the Ovide solution provided by the dr. This always seems to work, but the child/children in the class of my 1 daughter I guess can't rid of it, like I said she gets it all the time and my other 3 don't, I catch it soon enough I guess, but being in a classroom with the children that have it for over 6 hours a day 5 days a week, them little critters seem to jump right into my daughters hair, I think I might stop washing her hair for a while and see it that works ha...no, I have to take care of it, and it is definately not funny but you gotta to what you gotta do I guess...Well thanks for all of your feedback...It was all great insight...

Lice

I WENT TO Edgewood and had lice all the time!!!!
A good way to get ride of it in your hair is to take really thick Conditioner
leave it on for 2 Hours and then comb the childs hair with a lice comb.
It really works!!!

Lavender oil has recently

Lavender oil has recently been implicated in gynecomastia, the abnormal development of breasts in young boys. Denver endocrinologist Clifford Bloch discovered the link after several boys presented with enlarged breasts. Subsequently, Derek Henley and Kenneth Korach of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences in Research Triangle Park, N.C., discovered in lavender and tea tree oil the presence of compounds which both suppress male hormones and mimic female hormones. Because sex hormone levels are normally low prior to puberty, young boys and girls are particularly sensitive to estrogenic and androgenic compounds. The discovery of the gynecomastia link in boys has led some researchers to suspect lavender and tea tree oils, which are present in various personal care products including shampoos and lotions, may also contribute to the increased incidence of early breast development in girls.

RE: MzSnapCup

Thank you for that...I am refraining from using the tea tree oil anymore!! I have 4 girls ages 7, 6, 4, and 3 and my 7 year old is big for her britches anyways so developing breasts at 7 would not be a good thing for her!!! This was very interesting, I have never heard that before...But I defiantly will stop using it in my shampoo!! Thanks again for that useful info!

Thanks again, Ashley
